Secondary School

WWF's secondary school programmes aim to enhance students’ comprehension of the many conservation issues facing Hong Kong and provide them with the opportunity to learn first-hand through practical experience. With a wide scope, covering wetlands, freshwater, marine, footprint and other conservation issues, our secondary education programmes help students deepen their relationship with our environment.

WETLAND ENCOUNTER (FOR S.1–S.6)

Activity highlights:
Discover Hong Kong’s fascinating wetlands and learn to appreciate the natural environment by exploring various wetland habitats. There are different learning routes for junior and senior secondary students.

Activity format:
  • Bird watching
  • Encounter with different types of wetlands
  • Floating boardwalk (senior forms) or boardwalk (junior forms) experience * if including both junior and senior forms, floating boardwalk will be arranged

MANGROVE ECOLOGY (FOR S.4–S.6)

Activity highlights:
Explore the largest mangroves in Hong Kong, located in the core zone of Mai Po and learn about their features, ecology and the threats they face.

Experience the daily work of an ecologist, and learn about the value and importance of local biodiversity through wildlife surveys and scientific measures.

Metropolis Planner @Deep Bay

Activity highlights:
Uncover the impacts of large scale development projects on wetlands in Hong Kong, and learn about the various stakeholders involved and the importance of sustainable development through group discussions and an urban planning exercise.

Take part in the day-to-day work of an oceanographer. Investigate the properties of seawater and marine organisms by observing plankton, performing scientific measurements and learning about how human activities affect marine biodiversity.

Investigate intertidal habitats using scientific methods, participate in an on-site field study in a marine park and discover the importance of establishing marine protected areas.
