Mai Po Rice Paddy Farming Experience (Individual Group)
© WWF-Hong Kong
Did you know? The Mai Po Habitat Management Team is working hard to restore wetlands by cultivating rice paddies, providing more habitats and feeding grounds for local and migratory birds! Last summer, our paddy fields successfully attracted over 20 bird species, including the locally concerned Greater Painted-snipe and even the critically endangered Yellow-breasted Bunting! With your own hands, you can take part in this conservation effort and help enhance local wetland biodiversity!
This programme consists of three events, guiding you into the world of wetland agriculture:
This programme consists of three events, guiding you into the world of wetland agriculture:
-
Transplanting – Plant rice seedlings by hand and learn about the importance of water level management in wetland ecosystems.
-
Caring – Learn how to take care of the paddy fields by removing weeds and invasive species while understanding the threats wetlands face.
-
Harvesting – Experience the joy of a bountiful harvest and witness how wetlands nurture life.*
*Note: All harvested crops will remain in the reserve to provide food and habitat for wildlife.
